The 23 Most Important Things to Know to prepare for your move with Professional Movers.com
1. RE-REVIEW THE LIST OF ITEMS TO BE MOVED FOR ACCURACY
Customer is responsible to review the accuracy of the list of items to be moved found on the inventory section of your estimate. This list was collected during your pre-move survey by our Moving Consultant. The list should detail ALL items that you would like Professional Movers.com to move. The list is provided by room for easy review. If anything is missing from this list, you should contact your Moving Consultant as soon as possible to update the list. Remember, your estimate is based on this list.
On moving day, our Team Leader and move team will arrive and will perform a pre-move inspection, expecting to only move the items on the list. Asking to add additional items to this list on move day, could result in additional time, additional movers, additional trucks, and additional charges. To ensure no surprises on move day for you or for our move team, re-review the list and make sure everything that you need to be moved is on the list. It doesn’t matter if you think you told your Moving Consultant about something, if an item is NOT identified and included on the list, then it was not accounted for and is therefore, not part of your estimate.
2. REMOVE ITEMS FROM YOUR HOUSE & TRANSPORT THEM YOURSELF
All jewelry, firearms, ammunition, prescription medication, furs, gemstones, cash, currency, bank notes, bonds, stocks, deeds, travelers’ checks, coins, family heirlooms, financial statements, wills, passports, medical records, personal documents with social security number, and high-value collections such as baseball cards MUST be removed from your house prior to Professional Movers.com service date(s). Professional Movers.com will NOT pack, move, transport, or provide storage for any of these items. Customer must transport these in their own personal vehicle and must arrange to have these items secured outside of your home or office during packing and/or moving service dates. Professional Movers.com accepts no liability for any of these items.
3. MAKE SURE ALL OF YOUR BOXES ARE SEALED OR TAPED CLOSED
Customer is responsible to have all your boxes completely sealed. This prevents items from falling out, getting damaged, or lost during handling. It also ensures boxes can be stacked safely inside the moving truck. Remember, no open top boxes can be moved or loaded on Professional Movers.com trucks. Any open top boxes or boxes without closed lids will not be moved on move day and will be left at your origin for customer to transport in their own vehicle. Added tip, make sure you label the sides of your boxes, not the top. This will let us read your label when the boxes are stacked.
4. LAMPS, LAMPSHADES, ARTWORK, & MIRRORS MUST BE PACKED INTO BOXES PRIOR TO MOVERS ARRIVAL
Customer is responsible to pack all lamps, lamp shades, artwork, and mirrors into boxes prior to Professional Movers.com arrival. Unless your moving estimate states in writing that Professional Movers.com is packing your lamps, lamp shades, artwork, or mirrors into boxes, it is expected that the customer is responsible to pack these items into boxes. Remember, no lamps, lamp shades, artwork, or mirrors can be loaded on Professional Movers.com trucks without being boxed. MONEY SAVING TIP: Customer should place these items in their own vehicle and transport them to the new house. Be sure to ask your Moving Consultant if you have any questions.
5. EMPTY THE CONTENTS OF ALL DRESSERS, DESKS, LATERAL FILING CABINETS, NIGHT STANDS, CABINETS, ENTERTAINMENT CENTERS AND BOOKSHELVES
All dressers, desks, cabinets, entertainment centers, and bookshelves MUST BE COMPLETELY EMPTY prior to the arrival of Professional Movers.com on move day. Moving furniture that is full of contents will cause unnecessary stress and could cause cracking or the furniture to break apart while moving or possible drawer malfunction after moving. Eliminating any additional weight by removing all contents before moving will make the furniture easier to maneuver and keep it at less risk of damage during moving and transportation. In order for Professional Movers.com to move items out of and into rooms, it is possible items will be placed on their sides, slid around tight corners, turned upside down, and carried up or down flights of stairs.
The elimination of all contents will help protect your home or office walls, floors, and doorways since the furniture is easier to move. In the event Professional Movers.com arrives on move day and any of the identified furniture has contents inside, the customer will be presented with 3 options. Option 1: The customer can empty the contents of drawers and either leave the contents behind or pack them into boxes for the movers. Option 2: The move team will remove the loaded drawers from the furniture and move the furniture without the drawers. The loaded drawers would remain at the origin or movers can place the loaded drawers in the customers vehicle. Option 3: Professional Movers.com can pack the drawers for an additional cost of packing materials and any time needed to perform packing service. Option 4: The furniture with contents can be left behind at the origin and not moved.
6. VERTICAL UPRIGHT FILING CABINETS AND LATERAL FILING CABINETS:
For vertical upright filing cabinets, the customer can leave contents in only the bottom two drawers. All drawers above the bottom two drawers on a vertical upright filing cabinet must be emptied and packed into boxes or rental crates. For lateral filing cabinets, the customer must empty all drawers. Per manufacturer recommendation, the structural integrity of a lateral filing cabinet is not designed to withstand movement if done with contents.

This person must have access to your home, be over the age of 18, and legally authorized to sign on behalf of the customer.
14. THE NON-ALLOWABLES LIST OF PROHIBITED ITEMS THAT CAN NOT BE TRANSPORTED BY PROFESSIONAL MOVERS.COM
Government regulations along with our safety cargo policy prevent Professional Movers.com from transporting live plants, aerosols, bleach, batteries, fertilizer, fire extinguisher, paints, gasoline, kerosene, matches, muriatic acid, nitric acid, nail polish, nail polish remover, pool chemicals, charcoal, oil, oil fluid, lighter fluid, fireworks, liquor, chemistry sets, pets, pressurized or toxic materials, scuba tanks, firearms, ammunition, propane tanks, or any other hazardous material. Professional Movers.com can transport lawn equipment that operates using gasoline and oil as long as the customer has completely drained all gasoline prior to move day.
15. SECURE CARPET SHIELD IN ADVANCE OF YOUR MOVE DATE
If you have carpeted staircase and/or carpet throughout your home, Professional Movers.com recommends that the customer secures rolls of carpet shield. This is especially important if a customer has light colored carpet and if their move is scheduled for a date that may involve inclement weather such as rain or snow. Carpet Shield is sold through Home Depot or Lowes or can be purchased directly through Professional Movers.com if it is in stock. Please let your Moving Consultant know if you would like to purchase a carpet shield in advance of your move.

Professional Movers.com can place mattresses and box springs into the mattress bags on move date. Customer to clear driveway and walkway of all snow and ice. Driveway should be treated with salt or ice melt application. All pathways from entrances from home or office to the driveway must be cleared of snow and ice with a minimum width of 36” to allow the team to carry furniture. If a customer is requesting any items from the backyard to be moved, a pathway to the area the items are located should be free of snow and all items to be moved should be cleared of snow.
19. RENTING WARDROBES
If a customer is renting wardrobes for your move, the rental wardrobes will be brought out on the date of your scheduled move. Professional Movers.com will assemble and place rental wardrobes in rooms where they are needed. Customer can pack the rental wardrobes or request assistance from the move team. If assistance is needed to unpack the rental wardrobes, Professional Mover.com can assist.
20. ANY PACKED BAGS MUST CONTAIN SOFT GOODS ONLY
Customer may pack bags in addition to boxes, however bags must only contain soft goods such as linens, towels, pillows, comforters, and blankets. It is recommended clothing be boxed or placed in wardrobe boxes. Bags must not include any glass, kitchenware, pots, or pans.
21. LIVE PLANTS
Live plants can be very sensitive and asking the move team to transport them is not a good idea. The temperature changes that take place in the back of a moving truck is terrible for live plants. In addition, there is no safe way to secure a live plant in the back of a moving truck. Oftentimes, live plants can shift during transit, causing the dirt to spill out of the planter. This can be especially bad for the plant or if the dirt spills onto the rest of your furniture on the truck. Live plants are something that a customer should plan to place in the customer’s vehicle. A customer’s car offers a more confined space that the customer can monitor during transit. In addition, a customer has the ability to better regulate the temperature inside their personal vehicle so this is better for your plants. In the event, you would like Professional Movers.com to transport any live plants for your local move, be sure to contact your moving consultant and make sure they are aware. They should be included in your move estimate. There is no liability coverage for transporting live plants or any spillage or spoilage caused during the movement or transportation of live plants.
22. PETS ON MOVING DAY
The best way to ensure the physical and emotional safety of your pet during the move is to secure them at a neighbor or friend’s home, or in a professional kennel. In the event a customer cannot secure someone to watch your pet on move day, do some planning in advance to create a safe space where your pet can stay during the move. Identify a room with a door that can be closed and keep your pet inside that room with the bed, plenty of food, water, and toys. Place a large sign on the outside of the door that says “Pet Inside, Do Not Open Door”. This will remind the movers to keep this door closed during the move. It will also be important to let the move team know at the beginning of the day that you have a pet and show them the room the pet is located during the move so they will have heightened awareness as they are moving.
23. KIDS ON MOVING DAY
We recognize that the moving process fascinates children, but for their own safety, we recommend that they stay with family or friends on moving day if possible. This will keep the kids clear and safe of our moving trucks as we back them in and out of your property. In addition, children will naturally be curious during the move, especially when they see their boxes of toys being moved. This can lead to them following the movers or asking questions. The move team will be lifting heavy furniture, carrying items up and down staircases, around corners, and coming in and out of your home regularly. As the movers are working efficiently, a curious or unaware child can get caught up in the pathway of the movers. By coordinating your children to stay with family or friends, you will not have to worry about them accidentally finding themselves in a spot where they might get injured during the move.
In the event you are unable to secure family or friends to watch the kids on move day or you prefer to have them present, be prepared to supervise them carefully to ensure their safety during an often-frenzied day. Try to set-up a safe space for them where they will be out of the way of any moving. Highly recommend that they not be near any staircases or any of the high traffic areas movers will be moving. This would include the front doorways, the driveway, the front porch or anywhere heavy bulky furniture is being moved. Make sure that they are with you at all times and under your direct supervision. It will also be important to let the move team know at the beginning of the day that children are present during the move so they will have heightened awareness as they are moving
